Hello..It’s Rachael not Nadja! Just want to say thank you to
Nadja for doing the blog the past week and for emailing Crate and securing a
date for us. We really appreciate it, especially as you were busy with your
work too!
Ok, now to fill you in with my highlights from Germany. I don’t
know where to start as there was so much inspiring art, and being a typical tourist
in a new city I didn’t want to miss out on anything!
So I will start from the beginning, the story unfolds...
The Meinnger hostel where we stayed. The red colour is
very prominent, it must be a link of our red thread trail!!
It quite a shock when I walked around the corner of a shop and was confronted by the Cathedral, a truly spectacular sight.
I felt like I had properly experienced their culture after I had a German feast at Peter Bauhaus. The food was so good I went back another day!
Museum Ludwig was the highlight of my visit, I loved all the artwork there, especially the painting by David Hockney, the Expressionist works and the paintings by Edward Dwurnik.
There was also some paintings and installation/sculpture works in Kunst Sammlung Nordrhein Westfalen that captured my
attention:
I was really excited when I found out about the winter
impressionism exhibition at the arp museum. Unfortunately I couldn’t take
photos of the work but the gallery space was also impressive.
As well as the amazing amount of artwork, I thought the gallery and museum buildings were an artwork in themselves. I loved there open spaces that filled with light and large windows overlooking spectacular city and landscape views.
Over the week I grew to love Cologne, its bustling city centre,
impressive cathedral, the beautiful river Rhine, and also the great German food
and cafes. Canterbury feels a bit quiet now, although it’s good to be home.
