Sunday 3rd March

Hi!

Well I am still full of today when I made a very worthwhile trip down to Margate to see the Pavilion exhibition at Limbo. If any one local is interested in contemporary film it is 'a must'.  There are six films showing, and they are not short so you will need at least an hour if you want to see them all. I did without any regret, although I had to bob backwards and forward to put money in the metre for my car. I thought that Helene Kazan’s stop start animation film was especially wonderful, and hard to believe that it was made from a small model.  Linda Persson’s metaphysical film ‘Encounter’ was haunting. Other films by Richard Whitby, Karen Mirza, Mary Hurrell and Thomas Lock were also well worth seeing. Pavilion’s Auditorium was impressive, and fully functional as both a screen and sitting area for seeing the films.  I do have to confess that I waited for some one else to sit on it before I dared! It was intact very comfortable!  This exhibition is on until March 10th.

Well it was a busy week last week. Lots of things to tidy up before the Cologne college trip. We all had to pick ourselves up from our initial disappointment about Crate. But we calculated our pennies and want to go on with this project. We just have to hope that  Crate has some suitable dates available. It feels strange to go away at this stage of the event, and I feel guilty leaving Nadja to communicate with them.  I am keeping this project in my head and mulling over my ideas for linking our work together. I think that I have decided on the external piece that I want to do but must pass it by the others first.
Last Thursday I took a deep breath and rustled up a slide show of twenty images to show at the Pecha Kucha satellite event in a Whitstable pub. I chose to take a light approach to it as it was not a college assessment, and twenty slides of a students work could perhaps be very boring?! Maybe the pub venue encouraged that as I found that I was not the only one that incorporated humour into their presentation. It made me realise that my work practice is just beginning to gel and was a very useful experience though scary. The atmosphere was great and everyone was very generous with their work and showed respect for each others. Pecha Kucha is where you show slides and speak for a set amount of time for each slide. With this event it was 20 slides with 20 seconds per slide.

Next time I might do a dress rehearsal...and I might do it slightly differently. It was a very very useful experience.

Well it is a 5.45am start for me tomorrow to join the coach that will take us to Cologne! There are some fabulous trips to museums planned, and yes there is a chocolate factory there. So Nadja we will bring back some goodies for you. I plan to find an internet cafe to do an on the spot post from Germany on Wednesday! Meanwhile put Thursday 14th March in your diary!

Tschus !

Jennie
