I have swapped with Rachael as she will be working on her project this weekend, and will have that to report on on Sunday.
Firstly I want to say; Rachael you have no need to feel guilty. We have lots to work on with photographs and measurements. Nadja and myself will have actual work so we will get a sense of space visually, and we can draw out the rest. We both know your work quite well so it should work out fine.
I agree Nadja it was quite a week last week. A lot got done! New ideas came from our talk with Richard and that departure into making a poster and then a zine caught all our imaginations. More work perhaps but well worth it I feel.... and those boxes of yours look great.
So where to begin. Thank you Nadja for posting the pictures of the film show. I don't have a lot to say. It was very interesting to see which films worked on the big screen and how. The main issue was resolution, and a slight loss of quality. The digitally constructed animations of Isabel's worked the best. My films were fine but perhaps better on a slightly smaller scale as there was some pixelling. (personally I don't mind some) Sonja's animations are always a delight especially if it is a first viewing. I thought that the clear sharp line was slightly diminished by the scale having enjoyed watching them a lot on a smaller scale at my home viewing. It was good to see the performance 'Social Sleeves' as of cause as I was in it I did not get a proper view of it! The small audience mostly consisted of the filmmakers and photographers. However a few friends came along and a small handful of third years. All of whom were bowled over by Issy's professional standard. She has set up a web site http://orbitalgallery.co.uk.
After that I been focused on sending images to be transferred onto a silk screen so that I could print some A2 silk screen samples for us look at, and to do some decision making with. Aine got back to us very promptly with the answer to our copyright questions, and we are allowed to use an image of Crate. (She has been so helpful as Nadja said before). I think that it is going to look good as well as something that people can take away with them. When doing the samples I used two different sorts of paper. We are thinking economy here so I used the cheaper cartridge paper and newsprint. A lot will depend on what happens when I print it double sided. Then today I have spent some time thinking about the text that could go on the back of the poster. I did a draft which I have sent it to Rachael and Nadja so that they can brainstorm from it. We will have something to work with and on, in our coffee breaks on Monday. .... and Nadja I tried Id design and half got there!! One image at the top and a new layout since I sent the email! (Nadja is a whizz kid at this.)
No pictures today. I am off to enjoy the weekend and give a little thought to the essay now. I feel lucky to be working with Nadja and Rachael and it has been a privilege to get to know them more. Have a great weekend guys!
Jennie
