Hello! As you may know, today was the ‘Art in the Park’
search day. Let me tell you about how it went:
I woke up at 7.30 (no Sunday lie in for me unfortunately!)
so I could go to the Westgate Gardens early to hide the paintings. I arrived in
the gardens at 8.45 and set to work; hiding the paintings and documenting the
places I put them. It was nice being out in the gardens at this time as it was refreshing
and quiet with not many people around. I found it enjoyable looking around for
places to hide them, and it gave me a sense of satisfaction knowing that
someone else could have fun searching for them, and would get to keep it
afterward. A sudden burst of rain slightly dampened my mood, but not for long
as it quickly passed over. Putting the painted found objects back into their
initial environment completed the painting. I fastened a poster to a tree near
the entrance of the Gardens as I sneaked away, excited to see what the outcome
would be. I put another message on facebook and updated my blog to remind
people.
After church at 1.30 I went back to the gardens to give out
flyers so passersby might start looking. Heavy rain had just stopped and the
park was basically deserted, however gradually more people passed through. Most
gladly took a flyer, showing an interest or grunting approval but barely dared
to look any further or venture off the safety of the path. A few briefly peered
into bushes but this was not enough. To find the hidden paintings required a
careful search or deliberate look rather than a quick glance. The paintings
were well camouflaged.
The first painting to be found was by my friend who came
purposely to look. I had also told announced the happening a church so during
the day I noticed a few more families and friends come to have a look which was
encouraging. The kids were the best and most enthusiastic at looking and they
found some too! The Westgate Gardens gate shut at 3.30 so before then I quickly
had a scout to see which ones were left.
6 found. 6 remain. The search is not over yet!
At the moment it is tipping down with rain outside. I hope
this doesn’t ruin the remaining paintings but I have just decided to let nature
take over.
